Derek Ripp Leads Colonials offense with four RBIs

WASHINGTON - George Washington baseball started off its weekend in Richmond on the right foot, cranking out 12 hits in its 8-3 victory over the Spiders.

The Colonials' offense was methodical on Friday, scoring runs in three out of the first four innings to stake itself to a 6-0 lead against reigning A-10 Pitcher of the Week Brock Weirather.

Tim Nicholson plated the Buff & Blue's first run in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to left. One inning later, Derek Ripp muscled a three-run double down the right field line, and finally, GW plated a pair of runs in the fourth thanks to Steve DiTomaso and Logan Leax.

While Richmond was able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, GW's bats didn't stop. Cade Fergus added another run in the top of the fifth with a ground-rule double, before Ripp capped off his big game with an RBI single in the top of the ninth. Ripp finished the afternoon going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and he is now batting over .300 on the season.

On the mound, Harrison Cohen battled through six innings. The redshirt senior allowed just two runs while setting down four batters on strikes. Rich Pfluger also had a strong outing, throwing two scoreless frames while not allowing a hit.
