Colonials record 12 hits in effort
GW fell behind early on Tuesday, giving up a pair of runs in the first inning. Cade Fergus was able to get one back in the bottom of the frame with his eighth homer of the year, but the Tribe would extend its lead to 5-1 after a pair of long balls in the second and third.
The Buff & Blue would battle back with another run in the fourth, before tying the game at 5 in the fifth. Anthony Frechette, the reigning A-10 Player of the Week, started the Colonials' rally with a double, before scoring on an RBI groundout. GW would plate another run on a Ty Acker double, before first-year Matt McCowan tied the game with an RBI single.
Despite the rally, the Tribe's offense couldn't be contained. In the seventh, William & Mary sent 12 batters to the plate, including eight with two outs, and plated five runs. Tribe first baseman Cole Ragone delivered the knockout punch, launching a two-run homer to right for his second long ball of the afternoon.
Offensively, both Acker and McCowan picked up a pair of hits, while Steve DiTomaso reached base three times via a base hit and two walks. In total, eight of the Colonials' 10 batters had at least one base knock Tuesday.
Up next, GW will resume A-10 play when it heads to Philadelphia to face off with Saint Joseph's for a weekend series. Game one will get underway on Friday at 3 p.m. from Smithson Field.
