Colonials slug pair of homers to down Dayton
For the sixth time in seven games, GW started off a game by scoring in the first. The Colonials led off the bottom of the inning with a walk and base hit, before Anthony Frechette delivered his first of four RBIs with a single. GW would add one more run to go up 2-0 after one.
Dayton would storm back and even the score in the fourth inning, plating a pair of runs on an RBI single and a passed ball, before finally taking the lead in the fifth on a sac-fly.
However, In the bottom of the fifth, GW unleashed the long ball. Joe Biancone struck first, giving the home side a 4-3 lead with a monster shot to left. One inning later, it was Anthony Frechette's turn to leave the yard. The Colonials' catcher demolished a three-run shot to deep left center to put George Washington up 8-3. Frechette finished the afternoon 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs.
On the mound, the Colonials' bullpen was masterful. Five Buff & Blue pitchers combined to throw four innings of one run, one hit ball, including Rich Pfluger, who claimed the win after throwing two scoreless innings.
Following the series victory, GW moves to 5-1 to start A-10 play.
Up next, George Washington will host William & Mary at Tucker Field for a mid-week contest. First pitch is scheduled for this Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
