Williams Named A-10 Player of the Week

Softball standout had five extra-base hits at Liberty Invite
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Alexa Williams of GW softball has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week in recognition of her standout performance at the Liberty Invitational.
The sophomore from El Cajon, Calif., slashed .438/.471/.875 over five games last weekend while piling up five extra-base hits, six RBIs and four runs hitting out of the No. 2 hole to earn a share of the award with Dayton's Alyssa Cacini.
Williams got the tournament off to a strong start with three doubles and a pair of RBIs in a Friday doubleheader split vs. Lehigh. On Sunday, she slammed a three-run homer vs. Rutgers as part of a four-RBI performance and then had two hits and scored twice in a 4-3 win over James Madison to close the weekend.
It's the first A-10 Player of the Week nod for Williams after garnering three Rookie of the Week awards from the conference last spring. She's the second straight GW student-athlete to claim the honor after Mia Parker was recognized following the Liberty Classic.
Through 17 games, Williams leads the Buff and Blue with 15 RBIs and ranks second on the club in batting average (.360), total bases (25) and runs (10).
GW is back in action this weekend, kicking off A-10 play with a three-game series at Saint Joseph's on Saturday and Sunday.
