Patriots finish game on 13-0 run to steal victory from GW
FAIRFAX, Va. - In the first meeting between Revolutionary Rivals last month, GW finished the game on an 18-4 run to grab victory from the jaws of defeat. On Sunday, though, a cruel twist of fate saw George Mason return the favor with a game-ending 13-0 spurt to eke out a 69-62 victory at EagleBank Arena.
Joe Bamisile's three-point play with 5:21 remaining pushed the Colonials' advantage to 62-56. However, GW would not score the rest of the game, missing its final 11 shots. Mason ultimately took the lead for good with 3:26 remaining on a three-point play from Josh Oduro.
Trailing by three, 65-62, with two minutes left, GW had a pair of good looks to tie, but both 3-pointers from Bamisile and James Bishop wouldn't fall. After a stop, Bamisile had another game-tying 3-point chance with 25 seconds left that clanged off the rim. Mason hit four free throws to account for the final margin.
The Buff & Blue were held to just 33.3% shooting from the floor, including 25% in the second half. Bamisile led the Colonials with 18 points and four rebounds. Bishop added 16 points, half of which came from the free throw line. Brayon Freeman reached double figures for the fourth straight game with 12 points and two assists.
Oduro, who missed the first meeting between the teams, topped GMU with 27 points and 14 rebounds. D'Shawn Schwartz had 19, including four 3-pointers, and eight boards.
GW will now turn its attention to the final week of the season and a Senior Day matchup on Wednesday vs. Duquesne. Tip is set for 7 p.m. with a pregame ceremony at approximately 6:45 honoring Ricky Lindo Jr., Amir Harris, Bryan Knapp, Miles Gally and Theofanis Stamoulis.
