Gymnastics Set for Pair of Meets

GW to visit Pittsburgh on Sunday, West Virginia on Monday
WASHINGTON – After competing in its first dual meet of the season last weekend at Oklahoma, GW gymnastics turns its attention to a pair of tri-meets this weekend. GW will head to Pittsburgh on Sunday with New Hampshire before visiting West Virginia on Monday with William & Mary. March outs on Sunday are set for 2 p.m. and Monday's tri-meet will begin at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW competed at then-No. 2 Oklahoma last weekend, posting a 194.925 to finish second to the Sooners. Rachel Katz earned a career-high on bars to lead GW with a 9.800. Deja Chambliss led GW on floor and vault with a 9.900 and a 9.875, respectively. Chambliss scored a 9.000 on bars and a 9.725 on beam to cap her night with a 38.900 in the all-around.
MIDSEASON FORM: GW sits No. 43 overall in the Road to Nationals rankings, averaging 194.908. At fifth in EAGL, the Buff & Blue enter this weekend ahead of EAGL foes Pittsburgh and New Hampshire. Sunday's tri-meet will be the first time the teams meet this season. George Washington is first in EAGL on vault, averaging a 48.917. Chambliss leads the league on vault and floor, with averages above the 9.800 threshold on each event. Olivia Zona is third in the conference on floor with a 9.825 average.
SCOUTING PITT: The Panthers are sixth in EAGL with an average of 194.630. First-year Hallie Copperwheat is second in the league in the all-around with a 39.055 and recently shared the EAGL Gymnast of the Week honor with Chambliss. On Monday, Pitt hit a season-high 196.450 in its second-place finish at a tri-meet with Minnesota and Maryland. As part of that performance, the Panthers earned a score of 49.400 on bars, their fourth-highest score in program history.
A LOOK AT THE WILDCATS: The Wildcats are averaging 194.538, good for seventh place in EAGL. Kylie Gorgenyi is second in the league on vault (9.846), while teammate Alyssa Worthington leads the league on beam, averaging a 9.888.
MATCHUP WITH THE MOUNTAINEERS: West Virginia is 32nd according to Road to Nationals and owns the No. 15 spot in the country on floor, averaging a 49.260. The Mountaineers have remained in the top-25 in the national floor rankings for five consecutive weeks. WVU is second in the Big 12 and is coming off a first-place finish at a tri-meet with Pitt and Texas Woman's.
TRIBE x4: Monday's meet will be the fourth meeting between GW and William & Mary this season. The Tribe is 65th in the country, averaging 190.220.
