Colonials put four in double figures, roll to third A-10 road win
PITTSBURGH - GW men's basketball led by double digits for the final 32 minutes on Wednesday night at Duquesne, coasting to its third Atlantic 10 road win of the season in a 73-52 demolition of the Dukes at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
GW used an early 19-4 run to grab a 26-10 lead 10 minutes into the game and never looked back. The Colonials held Duquesne to 22.5% shooting in the first 20 minutes and an opponent season-low 19 points to take a 33-19 cushion into the locker room.
The Colonials then came out of intermission with back-to-back 3s from James Bishop and Joe Bamisile as part of an 11-2 burst in the first four minutes to push the lead to 23 (44-21).
The Buff & Blue led by as many as 27 in the game and had numerous second-half highlights, including yet another Bamisile windmill dunk and a layup in the final minute for former team manager turned walk-on Theofanis Stamoulis, his first career points in the Buff & Blue.
GW played well offensively, shooting 49.2% and hitting eight 3-pointers, but it was the defensive end that stood out. GW held Duquesne to 27.6% shooting from the floor, the lowest for an opponent since Fordham was held to the same mark on Dec. 30, 2020. The Dukes hit just 1-of-21 3-pointers (4.8%) to help GW earn its largest margin of victory since the aforementioned win at Fordham.
Bamisile led four Colonials in double digits with 21 points on an electric 9-of-13 shooting performance. Brendan Adams scored 12 points for his second double-digit game of the road trip, while Ricky Lindo Jr. double-doubled for the fourth time this year with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Brayon Freeman added 10 points and three assists.
Following a 2-1 road swing, the Colonials return to the friendly confines of the Charles E. Smith Center for a pair of home contests, beginning on Saturday against Rhode Island. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington and ESPN+.
