Men’s Basketball Looks to Build on Chemistry and Connectivity During Winter Travels

Opportunities abound for fan engagement
With the home portion of its non-conference schedule now in the rearview, GW men's basketball turns to the road ahead, where three games in Hawaii over the winter break precede a pair of A-10 tilts on the road to open conference play as college hoops season flips the calendar and storms towards March Madness 2023.
The opportunity for the Buff and Blue to plant a flag in the national picture awaits as five key games each present an opportunity. After downing the SEC's South Carolina in front of a raucous home crowd at the end of November, GW can make it two Power Five foes slayed in as many months when it takes on Washington State in the Diamond Head Classic.
"Any time you're able to play in multi-team events and you can play against a Power Five opponent that you don't normally get, the opportunity that presents itself is great for us," noted first-year head coach Chris Caputo. "Secondly, any time we get on national television for three games, that is great for our brand."
For fans looking to connect with the team in Honolulu, a Raise High Tailgate is planned on site. All three games in Hawaii will be televised nationally on the ESPN family of networks.
Upon their return to the continental 48, the squad has a few short days to recover before hitting the road again to the Windy City to help initiate Loyola Chicago to the Atlantic 10 Conference on New Year's Eve at 4 p.m. The 2018 Final Four participant danced into the hearts of America that year and is playing its first season in the A-10 in 2022-23.
Another chance for GW fans to see their team comes in the second A-10 game of the year at defending champion Richmond. The Buff and Blue travel to the Spiders on Wednesday, Jan. 4 with another Raise High Tailgate pregame.
Asked what his team is looking to accomplish before conference play ensues, Caputo noted: "Our chemistry on both ends of the floor has to get better. Our connectivity has to get better."
Before GW returns home to welcome in UMass – once again on national TV on USA – on Saturday, January 7 at 2 p.m., the Buff and Blue have the opportunity to do exactly that, as there's no better place to build chemistry and connectivity than in paradise and traveling together over the holidays.
Other opportunities to connect and reminisce with the program dot the calendar in the second semester, with a highlight being the induction of the 1993 Sweet Sixteen team into the Hall of Fame on February 3.
