WASHINGTON -Â A Bowie, Md., native, Omari Witherspoon has signed with GW men's basketball after beginning his college career at Pitt, head coach Chris Caputo announced on Wednesday.
"Omari is someone whom we recruited heavily coming out of high school, so we're incredibly excited for him to join our program," Caputo said. "His positional size and scoring ability with the ball or off the ball allows him to play multiple positions. What's most exciting to our staff, though, was how well he defended as a freshman in the ACC."
Witherspoon made 25 starts and 33 appearances for Pittsburgh during his freshman campaign, averaging 7.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg and 2.5 apg in 27.8 mpg. He was second on the team with 82 assists and showcased the aforementioned defensive prowess with 27 steals and 20 blocks, ranking second on the team.
The 6-4 guard finished the season with a flourish, tallying a career-high 19 points in the second round of the ACC Tournament against NC State, connecting on three 3-pointers for his 10th double-digit effort of the season.
Witherspoon was a four-star prospect out of St. John's College Prep in D.C., rated as the #105 prospect nationally by 247Sports and #143 by Rivals. He earned DCSAA First Team All-State honors as a junior after beginning his career at Archbishop Carroll High School.Â
During his standout prep career playing at the highest levels of DMV hoops, he scored over 1,000 points and was a two-time WCAC Player of the Year and First Team All-Met selection.
2026-27 Season Tickets for GW men's basketball are on sale now, starting as low as $125. The Revolutionaries are coming off back-to-back postseason appearances and the program's first postseason win in nine years at Utah Valley in the opening round of the NIT.
