Castornia wins GW Student-Athlete of the Week, Schroeder and Castorina recognized in conference
WASHINGTON - GW water polo is amidst a historic 13-game winning streak and has no signs of slowing down. This week, goalkeeper Luca Castorina has been named GW Student-Athlete of the Week and MAWPC Player of the Week, while utility Nick Schroeder earned MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Buff and Blue hosted three games this past weekend, giving GW fans a chance to see Castorina in action. In three games, the junior from Sicily made 38 saves with a .559 save percentage, frustrating the opposition all weekend.
This marks the second straight week water polo takes GW Student-Athlete of the Week. Castorina earns his first MAWPC Player of the Week honor of the year, adding to his two MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week awards.
Schroeder had one field block and two steals against Wagner, but came up huge in the closely-contested game against Navy with four steals to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors. The graduate student from Orinda, CA., earns his first conference recognition of the season, and GW captures the MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week for the third week in a row,
