WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball continues its three-game road swing on Saturday afternoon with its first visit to Rhode Island in nearly three years. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on USA Network.
COMEBACK KIDS: GW pulled off the biggest comeback under Head Coach Jamion Christian for its first A-10 win of the season on Monday vs. George Mason. Trailing by 13 with six minutes left (72-59), the Buff & Blue closed the game on an 18-4 run with Joe Bamisile scoring the game-winning basket with 3.5 seconds remaining. The 13-point comeback was the largest for GW since erasing a 14-point hole (27-13) in the second half of the A-10 Tournament Second Round vs. Saint Louis on March 9, 2017 in a 53-46 victory.
HUMAN HIGHLIGHT REEL: Joe Bamisile followed up his career-high 26-point performance on Monday vs. Mason with 22 points on Wednesday at Saint Joseph's. Bamisile has reached 20 points in three of four A-10 games and has three games of at least 25 points in his last six outings (25 vs. Radford and 25 vs. Dayton). Bamisile has averaged 21.0 ppg through the first four conference games and leads the A-10 in scoring among players who have played multiple league games.
Bamisile now has six 20-point efforts this season, most on the team, and the Colonials are 3-3 in those games. The sophomore is averaging 18.6 ppg and shooting 52% in GW wins compared to 13.5 ppg and shooting 40.5% in GW losses.
THE THREE AMIGOS: In addition to Bamisile's 21.0 ppg in conference play, Brayon Freeman (13.3 ppg) has also reached double figures in each of the four league games while James Bishop (14.8 ppg) has done so three times. The trio is combining to average 49.1 ppg over the past four contests while the rest of the team has scored a combined 57 points (14.3 per game) and all rank among the league's top-20 scorers in conference action.
Defensively, Bamisile (9 steals), Bishop (7) and Freeman (6) have been catalysts in forcing turnovers, combining for 22 swipes in A-10 play. The three rank fourth, 11th and 18th, respectively, on the league leaderboard.
A LOOK AT THE RAMS: Rhode Island is off to a 3-1 start in A-10 play following its 56-54 victory over La Salle on Wednesday night. The Rams feature one of the top defensive units in the country, ranking fourth nationally in field goal percentage defense (37.1%) and fifth in the NCAA with 6.4 blocks per game.
URI features incredible balance with seven players averaging at least 20 minutes per game and scoring between 7.4 and 11.8 points per game. Makhel Mitchell paces the team with 11.8 ppg while Jeremy Sheppard chips in 10.8 ppg.
Offensively, Rhody is 18th in the country in field goal percentage (48.8%) and is top-50 in both 2-point and 3-point percentage. The Rams have scored more than 60% of their points from inside the arc during league play, the second-most in the A-10.
