WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball returns to the Smith Center for its lone home game in a five-game span as it battles George Mason on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Tip is set for 2 p.m. with national coverage on CBS Sports Network.
BRAY OF HOPE: First-year Brayon Freeman moved into the starting lineup for the second time this year on Tuesday at VCU, scoring 10 points to go along with three assists. Freeman has taken over the point guard position during his recent surge, averaging 12.8 ppg and 5.2 apg over the last five contests and reaching double figures in each. The D.C. native also has kept track of the basketball, holding a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio (30:12) over the last six contests.
For the season, Freeman is second among A-10 freshman with 3.0 assists per game and a 1.45 assist-to-turnover ratio. He's also second among league rookies in 3-point percentage at 45.8% after hitting 5-of-10 threes in the last two contests.
DEFENSIVE WIZARD: Ricky Lindo Jr. recorded another remarkable defensive stat line on Tuesday at VCU with 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. He's now ripped down double-digit boards four times this year, while swatting three shots four times and snagging at least three steals seven times. In sum, Lindo is now second in the A-10 in rebounds (8.1 per game) while also ranking fourth in steals (1.9) and seventh in blocks (2.0), becoming the only player to rank in the top 10 of each category. He's also the only player in the nation to average at least 8.0 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 2.0 blocks per game.
BAM-BAM: Joe Bamisile notched his second 25-point effort in three games on Jan. 8 vs. Dayton, hitting 10-of-18 from the floor to go along with six boards, plus career highs in steals (4) and assists (3). Bamisile now has four 20-point efforts this season, most on the team, and has reached double digits 10 times, trailing only James Bishop's 11 for most on the squad. Bamisile has been incredibly efficient in GW's wins, averaging 16.8 ppg and shooting 57% while averaging 12.6 ppg and shooting 40% in losses.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS: George Mason has had an up-and-down start to the Kim English era in Fairfax, running off four straight victories to begin the season, including a top-25 win at Maryland, before stumbling to five consecutive losses. The Patriots have since won three of four, but have not played in 16 days since falling at #6 Kansas, 76-67, on New Year's Day.
Preseason All-Conference selection Josh Oduro is the leading scorer for Mason, averaging 17.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg while shooting 59% from the floor. A trio of transfers - D'Shawn Schwartz (14.6 ppg), DeVon Cooper (13.0) and Davonte Gaines (11.2) - all provide double digit scoring for the Patriots. The quartet accounts for over 77 percent of Mason's scoring this season.
