Pfluger, Cohen offer quality starts in double-dip dusting
DAVIDSON, N.C. - GW baseball rode a pair of dynamic pitching performances to a doubleheader sweep on Friday night at Davidson, taking the opener, 4-2, before claiming the nightcap, 10-2.
With the pair of victories, the Buff & Blue improved to 5-1 in league play, the best start to A-10 competition since also starting 5-1 in 2018. GW also extended its winning streak to six games, its longest since the 2018 campaign.
The Colonials pitching staff proved to be the difference on Friday night, holding the Wildcats, who were 16-1 on their home field entering the day, to three earned runs in 16 innings. Rich Pfluger, in his first start of the year, earned the win in the opener before Harrison Cohen tossed his second straight complete-game win in the nightcap.
Offensively, Noah Levin picked up a combined four hits in two games while Steve Barmakian scored three times and drove in three runs. Additionally, Anthony Frechette had three hits with two runs scored and two RBI, Steve DiTomaso, Derek Ripp and Cade Fergus drove in two each.

GW took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning thanks to the effort of Barmakian, who tripled before stealing home for the second time this season. Davidson quickly tied the game in the home half of a solo tater.
The Buff & Blue broke the 1-1 tie in the seventh inning when Fergus doubled home Frechette. An inning later, Barmakian added an insurance run on a sac fly before an error brought home the fourth run of the game.
Trevor Kuncl, who came on to put out a fire in the seventh inning with a double play, ended up finishing off the final 2.2 innings to earn his fourth save of the year.

GW 10, Davidson 2 (7 innings)
Cohen kept GW in the game before the Colonials erupted for all 10 of their runs in the final three innings.
The Wildcats didn't get their first hit against the redshirt junior until the fourth, when they turned a one-out double into a run to take a 1-0 lead.
GW came right back, though, stringing together five straight two-out hits in a five-run rally to take a comfortable 5-1 cushion. With two on, Frechette put the Buff & Blue in front with a two-run double before Fergus singled him home. DiTomaso followed with an RBI triple before trotting home on a double from Levin.
Davidson inched closer on a solo homer in the sixth, but GW put the game away with a second five-run rally in the seventh. DiTomaso singled in Frechette to make it 6-2 prior to Barmakian doubling in a pair and Ripp plating two more to blow things wide open.
With an eight-run cushion, Cohen finished off a seven-inning complete game for the second time in as many A-10 starts. Cohen matched a season-high with eight strikeouts while walking a season-low one in a 98-pitch effort.
After an off day Saturday, the two teams will square off in another double-dip on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
