Colonials look to improve on 3-1 conference mark
Due to impending weather, the series schedule has changed to a doubleheader on Friday and a doubleheader on Sunday with no game Saturday.
WASHINGTON - GW baseball returns to A-10 play this weekend, heading to Davidson for its first road series of the season. Due to expected inclement weather, the series now starts with a doubleheader on Friday night at 5 p.m. with a nine-inning game followed by a seven-inning matchup. After an off day Saturday, another doubleheader is scheduled for Sunday with a seven-inning game followed by a nine-game starting at noon.
INSIDE THE A-10: After an off weekend, GW is still tied atop the South Division with Saint Louis at 3-1 after the Billikens' series vs. Richmond was canceled last weekend. VCU swept Davidson to move into a virtual tie at 5-3, while Dayton (4-4), the Wildcats (3-5) and George Mason (2-6) chase the leaders. Richmond has yet to play a conference game.
KEEP YOU IN THE GAME: GW will need another solid weekend from its pitching staff after a resilient effort against VCU two weeks ago. Over the last five games, the Buff & Blue have posted a 3.51 staff ERA with just 37 hits allowed in 41 innings for an opponents' average of .238. Trevor Kuncl has led the way with 6.2 scoreless and hitless innings of relief, earning a win and a save in the process.
SHUT IT DOWN: Anthony Frechette threw out his ninth and 10th base runners of the season on Wednesday vs. Towson, continuing his impressive run behind the plate. Since March 30, Frechette has silenced the opponent's running game, throwing out six of nine attempted base stealers. For the season, Frechette has caught 40% of would-be base stealers, nabbing nearly as many runners (10) as he did in his first two years combined (12).
ABOUT THE WILDCATS: Davidson is looking for a bounceback weekend following a four-game sweep at the hands of VCU. The Wildcats have had a stark home/road split, going 16-1 on their home field and just 1-12 away from home. Davidson is 11th in the league in hitting at .252 and seventh in the loop with a 5.54 ERA.
The Colonials are 5-17 all-time against the Wildcats, last meeting in a series loss in 2019. GW has not visited Davidson since 2016.
