Colonials blast three dingers to double up Tigers
ARLINGTON, Va. - Noah Levin, Eddie Micheletti, Jr. and Tyler Hix each hit a two-run homer and a quartet of GW pitchers held Towson to just three hits in an 8-4 win on Wednesday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Dealing with winds in excess of 25 mph out to left field, the Buff & Blue wasted no time in getting started with Levin blasting one through the wind out to right field in the home half of the first for an early 2-0 lead.
The Tigers came right back with back-to-back jacks in the top of the second to take a 3-2 lead and added a fourth run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth.
From there, GW scored six unanswered starting with an RBI double from Derek Ripp in the bottom of the fourth. He would score two batters later on a homer from Micheletti, putting the Colonials in front for good at 5-4.
Levin nearly picked up his second long ball of the day in the fifth, but settled for an RBI triple off the batter's eye in center. Hix capped off the day at the dish with a straightaway two-run shot in the sixth, making it 8-4.
Towson's offense was held silent aside from the two homers, collecting just one base hit in the final seven innings. Connor Harris came on in the fourth and tossed four-plus innings of scoreless ball, striking out three while walking two to earn the win. Trevor Kuncl punched out three in the final two innings to nail down the triumph.
Levin, going 2-for-4 with three driven in, was one of four with multi-hit efforts on the day with Ripp, Hix and Steve DiTomaso. The three bombs were the most for GW since hitting four at UMBC on March 26, 2019.
Winners of four in a row, GW will travel to Davidson this weekend for its first A-10 road series of the year. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m. followed by a doubleheader at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
