Head Coach Jamion Christian announced Wednesday that Daniel Nixon has signed a national letter of intent to enroll and compete for GW in 2021-22. Nixon, a three-star recruit out of White Plains, New York, is ranked as a top-50 small forward in his high school graduating class and received offers from schools including Iowa, Wichita State, Ole Miss, Wake Forest and Georgetown, among others, before committing to join the GW family.
"We are building this roster around guys who can play multiple positions, have tremendous ball skills, and play with great toughness," said Christian. "Those are a few of the best qualities that Daniel brings to the table. Obviously, when you see him his size jumps out at you. Walking in the door at the size and strength of an A-10 player already is very important as we continue to add key pieces to the roster. The deciding factor for us was how badly he wanted to be at GW. Through the process of getting to know one another, we each had a strong recognition that Daniel and GW can do big things together. He is ready to be pushed and we're ready to push him to become the best he can be. We're excited for the journey of watching Daniel become all that he is capable of becoming."
Nixon is currently competing at Winston Salem Christian School after moving to North Carolina from New York where he played in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League.
He joins a roster that features the returning second-leading scorer and fifth-leading assist man in the A-10 in James Bishop (via LSU), double-double performer Ricky Lindo (via Maryland) and promising big men Noel Brown and Hunter Dean as returnees, plus incoming transfers Joe Bamisile (Virginia Tech), Ira Lee (Arizona) and Brendan Adams (UConn). Local product Brayon Freeman will also join the Buff and Blue after committing last fall.
