Colonials top Hornets 8-2 in third straight blowout
ARLINGTON, Va. - GW baseball capped off a dominating weekend at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park on Sunday, besting Delaware State, 8-2, to finish off a three-game sweep. GW outscored the Hornets 32-4 in the three-game sweep.
Steve DiTomaso and Steve Barmakian were the catalysts at the dish on Sunday, driving in three runs a piece. Eddie Micheletti, Jr. collected three hits while Tyler Hix and Domenic Boselli registered multi-hit games as well.
On the mound, junior Rich Pfluger yielded a run on four hits in four-plus innings before yielding to graduate student Keagan McGinnis, who earned the victory with three scoreless innings of relief.
After allowing a run in the top of the first, GW quickly evened the score as Cade Fergus led off with a walk and raced around from first on a DiTomaso single to even the score.
In the third, the same combo paid dividends as DiTomaso tripled home Fergus before scoring on a Barmakian RBI groundout. An inning later, Fergus picked up an RBI with a bases loaded walk, DiTomaso plated a run with a groundout and Barmakian drove in a pair with a two-out single.
The Colonials tacked on their final run in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Boselli.
The Buff & Blue now close out a busy March with a pair of home games at the Tuck in the mid-week. First up is Virginia on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. before Navy comes calling on Wednesday, also at 3 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
