Raimo tosses first quality start of the year
ARLINGTON, Va. - Graduate student Elliott Raimo authored an ultra quality start on Saturday afternoon, but Seton Hall erupted late to break open a pitchers' duel and claim the middle game of the series, 8-0, at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Raimo was dealt the tough-luck loss, but authored his best start of the year, lasting seven innings. The graduate student struck out four in the first two innings, and ultimately five in the game, while scattering five hits and a walk.
Raimo needed just 85 pitches in the outing and retired the final 11 batters he faced. Seton Hall got to him for just two runs after loading the bases in the third inning, plating tallies on a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly.
GW's offense, however, was unable to get much traction, recording just five hits on the day and only two after the fourth inning. Seton Hall's Ryan McLinskey and Chris Shine retired 14 of 15 hitters from the fourth to the eighth innings.
The Pirates blew the game open in the eighth with five runs, including a grand slam from Tylder Shedler McAvoy, before adding a run in the ninth for good measure.
The two teams will square off in the rubber game on Sunday afternoon at noon on ESPN+.
