Baseball Tops Seton Hall in Series Opener

GW racks up 13 hits in 13-8 triumph
The Colonials reached double figures for the third time in four games, with seven different student-athletes recording a hit and six driving in a run.
Steve DiTomaso was the tablesetter, going 4-for-5 at the top of the lineup with four runs scored and an RBI. Logan Leax drove in three runs and Noah Levin plated four from the cleanup spot. Derek Ripp, who entered the day as the team leader in RBI, drove in two more as part of a 2-for-4 day.
After an early exchange of runs, GW put up four runs in both the second and third to grow a 9-2 advantage. Levin provided the big blow with a three-run double in the second before promptly scoring on a Tyler Hix RBI single.
In the third, DiTomaso started the rally with an RBI single, followed by Leax driving in two with a knock of his own.
Seton Hall closed to within 9-6 in the fifth, but Ripp prevented the shutdown inning to follow the Pirates' rally with an RBI single in the bottom half of the frame. After the Pirates cut it to 10-8 in the seventh, the Colonials answered with an unearned run in the home half and tacked on two more runs in the eighth on RBIs from Leax and Steve Barmakian.
Trevor Kuncl recorded the final five outs to earn his first save of the year. Harrison Cohen earned the win, battling through five innings, striking out six while allowing six runs on seven hits.
GW will look to secure the series win on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
