Colonials continue eight-game homestand vs. Keydets
WASHINGTON - GW baseball is back in action on Wednesday afternoon, welcoming VMI to Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
BAT-TERING RAMS: Despite the tough losses over the weekend, GW's offense stood out with 27 runs on 31 hits in the three games against Saint Joseph's. The Colonials are second in the league, and 37th nationally, with a .294 team batting average thanks to a dynamic duo of Steve Barmakian and Noah Levin. Barmakian (.471/.548/.559) and Levin (.429/.524/.714) rank second and fifth, respectively, in the A-10 in average and second and fourth, respectively, in on-base percentage.
NOTHING IF NOT CONSISTENT: Not to be outdone, Cade Fergus is hitting .310/.429/.483 in the young season and enters Wednesday with an eight-game hitting streak. Fergus hit his first homer of the year on Friday night and has scored at least one run in six straight games, including three in Sunday's first game.
ABOUT THE KEYDETS: VMI is 3-8 on the season and will host Radford on Tuesday before visiting GW. The Keydets dropped two of three to James Madison over the weekend and are 0-4 against the A-10 so far, dropping three games to VCU and one to Richmond. Callen Nuccio paces the team with 14 hits in 11 games, batting .311 with 13 RBI so far.

Feb. 9, 2021 marked the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Congress' establishment of The George Washington University's charter. GW Athletics is proud to be part of the university's bicentennial celebration, honoring the historic milestone with a variety of initiatives meant to highlight the best of the Buff and Blue. GW's all-times games played leader, Mike Bassett was an All-American and A-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Player for the 2002 team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Bassett also still holds the GW record for career home runs and RBIs. An 11th round pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 2002, Bassett left GW with seven career records and three single-season records.
