Keydets earn 8-1 midweek victory
ARLINGTON, Va. - GW baseball was unable to muster much offense on a chilly Wednesday afternoon, falling to visiting VMI, 8-1, at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
The Keydets jumped out early with a pair of runs in the second inning and never surrendered the lead, ultimately adding four runs across the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to push the advantage to 6-0.
GW scratched across its only run in the last of the seventh on an RBI groundout from Steve Barmakian. The Colonials had multiple opportunities to push across runs throughout the afternoon, but went hitless in 10 at-bats with runners in scoring positions.
Six different Colonials took to the bump, with first-years Christopher Kahler and Benny Wilson standing out. Kahler worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning, and yielded just an unearned run with a pair of strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Wilson made his collegiate debut in the ninth inning, and worked around a couple base runners thanks to a double play.
The Buff & Blue now look ahead to a three-game weekend set with Seton Hall beginning on Friday. First pitch of the series opener is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
