Colonials and Bears square off for third place in Naples Invitational
NAPLES, Fla. - GW men's basketball wraps up its time in Naples on Wednesday in the third-place game of the Naples Invitational vs. Missouri State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
HE'S ON FIRE: After a relatively slow start to the campaign, junior James Bishop has found the scoring knack, averaging 18.5 ppg over his last four contests. Bishop is shooting 45.6% from the floor and 30.8% from beyond the arc over the last four games compared to 20.9% and 15.7%, respectively, in the season's first three games. Bishop entered this week leading the A-10, and ranking in the top 30 in the NCAA, in total field goal attempts and 3-point attempts.
FREEING HIM UP: First-year Brayon Freeman has started to shine in his last three games, averaging 10.7 ppg during that stretch following his 11-point performance against Kent State on Tuesday. Freeman tallied a career-high 13 points vs. UMass Lowell on Friday, going 5-of-6 from the floor before putting in eight points against Wright State on Monday.
Freeman is aiming to become the second Colonial freshman under Coach Christian to average double digits, following Jamison Battle (11.8 ppg) in 2019-20.
MR. CONSISTENT: Joe Bamisile recorded 15 points for the second straight day in yesterday's matchup with Kent State, reaching double figures for the fifth time in eight games this season. The sophomore transfer from Virginia Tech knocked down three trifectas yesterday, matching his total from the previous six games. The former top-100 recruit scored 45 points total at Virginia Tech his freshman season.
A LOOK AT THE BEARS: Missouri State is 3-2 on the season following its 77-76 loss in the final three seconds to East Tennessee State on Wednesday night. The Bears average over 83 points per game and rank 25th in the country with 1.105 points per possession per KenPom. MSU is 14th in the country in effective field goal percentage (59.2%), which takes into account the added value of a 3-pointer.
Isiaih Mosley is the team's leading scorer at 21.8 ppg while Gaige Prim averages a double-double with 18.6 ppg and 10.6 rpg. The Bears are 3-0 when Mosley reaches 20 points this year and 0-2 when he doesn't.
