Coming on the heels of a 52-point trouncing of Navy on opening night, the George Washington men's basketball team welcomes Hampton to the Smith Center on Saturday, looking to go 2-0 to start the year for the sixth consecutive season. Live coverage of the matchup will air on ESPN+ with Byron Kerr and Jimmy Patsos on the call.
GW used a balanced attack to defeat Navy on Monday night, headlined by three players scoring 14 points apiece, nearly outscoring Navy themselves. Included in that group is first-year Promis N'Landu, who went 6-for-7 from the floor in his collegiate debut, to go along with three assists in a strong coming-out party. Incoming transfers Felix Kossaras and Ryder Frost both recorded 14 points as well, with Kossaras grabbing four boards and netting a career-high four triples in his Buff & Blue debut. In total, 10 Revolutionaries got into the scoring column, while limiting Navy to just 15 points in the second half.
Monday's contest marked the fifth time GW has held an opponent under 50 points since Head Coach Christ Caputo took over in 2022, going 5-0 in those contests. The Revolutionaries are also 18-3 under Caputo when scoring over 90 points and now own a 25-6 record in games played in November during the Caputo era.
Saturday's matchup marks the sixth time GW and Hampton have met, dating back to the first matchup in 1995. The Buff & Blue hold a slim 3-2 lead in the all-time series, with GW's 82-54 win in 2024 the most recent result between the two programs.
Hampton is led by third-year Head Coach Ivan Thomas, who led the program to 17 wins in '24-'25 and 13 wins a year ago. The Pirates, picked to finish 10th in the CAA Preseason Poll, were dropped in their season-opener on Wednesday, falling on the road to Georgia Tech, 75-55. Despite the loss, Hampton managed to turn the Yellow Jackets over 18 times and limited George Tech to just 4-of-28 shooting from three-point range.
Hampton was led by Seth Hubbard on Wednesday night, who led the team with nine points. Jayme Mitchell Jr. tallied eight, while Max Frazier recorded six points and seven rebounds.
