Brown resets career-high for second time this season
NAPLES, Fla. - GW men's basketball clawed to within seven points of Missouri State early in the second half on Wednesday evening, but a difficult set of circumstances led to the Colonials' demise in a 72-54 setback in the third-place game of the Naples Invitational.
Trailing 36-29 five minutes into the second half, Brendan Adams forced a turnover and had a breakaway contested dunk go awry after having his legs taken out from underneath him. GW was then called for two technical fouls in the ensuing minute, and the Bears put together a pair of four-point possessions as part of a 12-0 run over 90 seconds to regain a 19-point lead. MSU kept GW at bay the rest of the way, never letting the lead slip below 16.
Sophomore Noel Brown had led the charge out of the halftime break, scoring six of his career-high 12 points in the first three minutes to slice a 13-point deficit, 32-19, to seven.
James Bishop led GW in scoring for the fifth straight game, providing 17 points, two rebounds and two assists. Joe Bamisile hit a pair of late 3-pointers to reach 12 points, posting double digits for a team-high seventh time in eight games.
Gaige Prim led the Bears with a near double-double of 20 points and nine rebounds. Missouri State outshot GW 43% to 38%, hitting eight 3-pointers to the Colonials' five.
Having played the second-most games in the nation through the season's first 16 days, GW will now take a week off from competition before opening up a home-heavy December schedule next Wednesday vs. Boston University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m
