Bishop nets season-high 23 points
WASHINGTON - Last time the Boston University Terriers visited the Smith Center, the GW faithful were treated to a buzzer-beating win after a game-closing 10-0 run by the Buff and Blue. Two years later, GW stood a chance to make magic happen once again. Down two in the closing seconds, the Buff and Blue had two chances to either take the lead or force overtime. First, Joe Bamisile missed a straightaway 3-pointer for the lead, but GW retained possession after a scramble for the loose ball. Then at the buzzer, Ricky Lindo Jr. fielded a lob in the lane but couldn't connect on the would-be OT-forcing shot, as GW fell 56-54.
BU came in hot, having won four of its last five games, with the only defeat coming courtesy of the ACC's Florida State in a contest that went to overtime. Projected as the top team in the Patriot League this year, BU brought Preseason Player of the Year Javante McCoy to D.C. but was stifled in the early going. The Terriers shot just 10-of-32 from the field in the first half (.313), and assisted on just one of their makes.
Meanwhile, after leading the team in scoring for each of the last five games, James Bishop continued his streak on Wednesday night. The A-10's leading returning scorer had 13 points by halftime on 6-of-11 shooting in the opening 20 minutes, and the Buff and Blue took a 34-26 lead into the intermission. That eight-point lead matched the largest either side would hold in a back-and-forth contest that saw seven ties and five lead changes. Unfortunately for GW, an eighth tie and sixth lead change wasn't to be.
Bishop went on to finish with a game- and season-high 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting, including 3-of-6 from deep. McCoy tied for team-high 17 points for the victors, alongside Sukhmail Mathon. Lindo checked in with game-highs in rebounds (11), steals (3) and blocks (3).
Up next for GW is the final road date of the non-conference schedule at former A-10 foe Charlotte at 2pm on Saturday on ESPN+.
