Gymnastics Set for Pair of Meets

Colonials travel to Towson on Friday, host Senior Day on Sunday
LEADING OFF: The George Washington gymnastics team will kick off competition in March with a pair of meets this weekend. The Colonials will first make the short trip to Towson for tri-meet action with Maryland on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting the Tigers and Terps along with Yale and William & Mary for Senior Day on Sunday at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials put together a solid team performance on Friday evening at North Carolina, finishing just behind the host Tarheels 196.325-195.500 under the bright lights of Carmichael Arena. The squad earned their 195.500 behind team scores of 48.625 on vault, 48.950 on bars, 48.900 on beam, and 49.025 on floor.
SENIOR SALUTE: GW will celebrate its senior class of Cydney Crasa and Nicole Rogalski on Sunday. The seniors have been instrumental to the GW gymnastics program's return to NCAA Regionals in each of the past three seasons and the 2017 EAGL Championship.
195.000 CLUB: For the first time in 2020, the Colonials posted back-to-back scores above the 195.000 threshold. Last week, the squad posted a season-high 195.900 at their Sweet Meet on podium, boasting season-high scores on both uneven bars (49.000) and floor exercise (49.175). At North Carolina, the Buff and Blue put together another solid team performance with a 195.500, including its second straight floor score above the 49.000 mark with a 49.025. GW earned its first score above 195.000 this season at its Pink Meet on Jan. 31, finishing with a 195.350.
FLOORishing: GW had its best event of the night on floor on Friday evening, posting their second-straight score above the 49.000 threshold with a 49.025. Deja Chambliss paced the squad with a team- and career-high matching 9.875, a score that placed her third on the podium. Crasa also performed a beautiful floor routine to earn a 9.850, her sixth floor score above a 9.800 this season. Anna Warhol earned a 9.800 along with Rachel Kaplan. For Kaplan, the 9.800 marked a season-high. Olivia Raymond, returning to the floor lineup for the first time since Feb. 8, posted a 9.700 to give GW its 49.025.
AT THE TOP: Five Colonials finished the night on the podium in Chapel Hill. Chambliss topped the team with four podium appearances, including a first place finish in the all-around with a 39.025. After scoring a 9.450 on bars, the sophomore bounced back on vault, matching her career-high with a 9.875 to take second. Chambliss continued her momentum on floor with a career-high matching 9.875 to finish in a tie for third. The Chesterfield, Va., native capped her night with a career-high and tied for first place score of 9.825 on beam.
Simone Banen and Rachel Kaplan paced the squad on bars with matching 9.825s to share the top spot on the podium. For Kaplan, the 9.825 marked a season- and career-high. Her previous season-high on bars was a 9.700. Raymond also earned a spot on the bars podium at third with a 9.800. Hannah Cohen shared the top spot with Chambliss on beam, also earning a 9.825.
ROAD AHEAD: Following their pair of meets this weekend, GW will hit the road to College Park, Md. to face Maryland and a trio of EAGL opponents on Sunday, March 15. The Colonials will have a chance to go up against the Terps and league rivals North Carolina, NC State, and New Hampshire to conclude their regular season. March-outs are set for 7 p.m.
