Volunteers score seven unanswered to win, 7-3
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - GW baseball jumped on #19 Tennessee with three runs in the first three innings, but for the second straight day saw the Volunteers roar back with seven unanswered runs, ultimately falling, 7-3.
The Colonials got right to work in the first inning, taking an early 2-0 lead on back-to-back RBI singles from juniors Tyler Hix and Domenic Boselli. GW loaded the bases with one out in the frame, but was unable to add on.
The Buff & Blue tacked on their third run of the day in the third when Boselli reached on an error, stole second and scored on sophomore Noah Levin's double, the second RBI two-bagger in as many days for the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year.
Junior starter Justin Solt kept Tennessee at bay for the most part, ceding a solo home run in the last of the third before stranding the bases loaded in the fourth. The first two Vols reached in the fifth, ending Solt's day after 4+ frames having allowed three runs on four hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
First-year Connor Harris allowed the two inherited runners to score as well as a third tally to move the Volunteers in front, 4-3. UT would add two in the seventh and one in the eighth to pull away from GW.
Boselli registered a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Levin cracked GW's only extra-base hit with the third-inning RBI double.
The Colonials will look to be the first team to top the undefeated Volunteers on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
