
Men's Swimming & Diving Claims Two A-10 Golds

Fath and Aspougalis earned wins on Friday night
GENEVA, Ohio - George Aspougalis and Moritz Fath claimed individual gold medals and then combined on a silver-winning relay effort Friday at the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships.
Fath won his third career gold in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:35.92, while Aspougalis went 1-2 with teammate Youssef Ragab in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching in 53.79 seconds to claim victory.
To close the night, Fath and Aspougalis teamed with James Torrez and Ragab to take second in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:15.18. With an excellent finish, Fath pushed the Colonials into medal position.
GW remains in second place in the team standings, heading into the final day of competition. The Colonials (391 points) are chasing George Mason (426) with St. Bonaventure (350.5) third.
On the day, GW claimed six medals to keep a fourth straight A-10 title within reach.
Fath's winning time in the 200 free was just off his A-10 record in the event. The senior from Germany was joined on the medal stand by first-year Tyler Kawakami, who grabbed bronze in 1:38.10 for his first individual conference medal.
GW flexed its strength in the 100-yard breaststroke with three A finalists. Aspougalis earned the top seed with a season-best time of 53.36 seconds in prelims and then proceeded to win the event. Ragab took silver in a personal-best time of 54.19 seconds. Haoning Chen landed eighth, as well.
Torrez showcased his versatility on a busy evening. The sophomore from California picked up his first A-10 medal with a runner-up showing in the 100-yard butterfly. His time of 48.29 seconds was a career best that ranks No. 2 on the program's all-time top 10.
Torrez also paced the Buff and Blue in the 100 back. He touched in :49.74 for 11th followed by teammates Ryan Patterson (12th), Andrew Cho (13th) and Kaden Schwaiger (15th).
Josh Legge led the way in the 400-yard individual medley in eighth after qualifying for the A final with a personal-best time of 3:57.90 during prelims. DH Hwang claimed the B final with a sizzling time of 3:56.41.
Oscar Madsen (15th, 200 free) and Schwaiger (16th, 100 fly) also tallied points for the Colonials on Friday night.
UP NEXT: The A-10 champion will be crowned Saturday after a final day of competition. Preliminary events begin at 10 a.m., followed by finals starting at 6:30 p.m. The full schedule is available here.
