
Men's Water Polo Lands ACWPC Academic Honors

Seven Colonials honored for work in the classroom
WASHINGTON – GW men's water polo has landed seven student-athletes on the 2019 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team.
In addition, the Colonials were lauded as a group for their continued success in the classroom in recognition of their combined cumulative GPA of 3.13.
Gabriele Simonti (3.94 GPA) and Matt Taylor (3.86 GPA) led the group by earning "Outstanding" status, while Zachary Pendolino (3.63) received "Superior" honors and Nick Schroeder (3.33), Isher Gill (3.29), Andrew Mavis (3.27) and Bender Russo (3.26) earned spots on the "Excellent" list.
A graduate student who started for the Colonials in net, Taylor was recognized on the ACWPC All-Academic list for a fourth time following a final season in which he was named to the All Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Second Team.
A three-time ACWPC All-American selection for his excellence in the pool, Mavis was honored by the organization for his academics for a third time. The junior from New Jersey wrapped a decorated career in Buff and Blue with 279 goals to rank third all-time.
A redshirt junior, Gill was recognized by the ACWPC for a third straight season, while Pendolino made the list for a second time after his sophomore campaign. Simonti, Schroeder and Russo were first-time honorees.
A total of 450 student-athletes and 35 teams across all three NCAA divisions were recognized by the ACWPC.
