Racing against strong intra-conference fields, the George Washington sailing team recorded solid finishes at the MAISA Match Race and the Women's Showcase Semifinals over the weekend.

The Colonials finished seventh in a field of eight boats at the MAISA Match Race at Kings Point, finishing just ahead of Old Dominion. The Buff and Blue were represented by skipper Cameron Feves and crew Taylor Milefchik, Pwen Timms, and Jordan Soenke.
"We just struggled a bit with our boat handling," said head coach Billy Martin. "It was an extremely competitive fleet, obviously with it being a qualifier. I'm happy with some of the progressions we made and how we kept a cool head throughout the event because when you're getting a lot of losses it's easy to get in your head, but I think we did a good job with focusing on what was in front of us. That's definitely good for this young team moving forward, which had two sophomores, two juniors, and a first-year on that boat. That team will be back together for the next year or two so I'm looking forward to see how they progress."

At the Women's Showcase Semifinals at Brown, the women's squad took a 12th place finish in a field of 15 boats. In the A-Division, Aitana Mendiguren and Sarah Noyes paired up and took 11th and had their best finish of the weekend in the 10th race when they were the third boat to cross the finish line. In the B Division, Islay Van Dusen and Clare Cassidy-Gardner, and Sarah Hardee and Kaleigh Morgan combined to take 13th.
"For the women's team up at Brown, we ended up 12th, which was three short of nine, which was qualifying for the next event," Martin said. "It was our first intra-conference of the year, and we just struggled to get off the starting line. It seemed like our boat speed and boat handling was just okay, but we were lacking on the starting line against a strong slate of teams. There's definitely a lot of areas for us to work on, but we still have a lot of the season left and with this group, I'm very optimistic about the rest of the season."
