Colonials hit the road for penultimate non-conference game on Thursday at UMBC
WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's soccer team wrapped up its four game homestand at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus with a 2-1 victory over Bucknell on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 21st Minute – The Colonials were the first to score with a goal off a corner kick. Sammy Neyman took the corner and positioned the ball right in front of the net, giving Megan McCormick the opportunity to head the ball just beyond the reach of the Bucknell keeper. GW 1, BU 0
• 28th Minute – The Bison evened the score just seven minutes later with a goal from Gabby Bair. Bair took possession of the ball at midfield and shot it from outside the box. GW 1, BU 1
• 32nd Minute – GW got back in front with a goal from Maria Pareja. Sofia Pavon took the ball wide and crossed it to an open Pareja, who shot into the open net. GW 2, BU 1
NOTEORTHY
• Today's bout between the two squads was their first meeting since 1980. GW came out on top in that meeting as well, 5-1.
• Natalie Silberman made her first start of the season against the Bison.
• McCormick's goal marks her second in 2019 and the third by a GW defender.
• Pareja's goal is her third of the season, a mark that ranks first on the team.
• GW outshot Bucknell 11-4 in the first half and 20-5 on the day.
• With today's victory, GW went 2-0-2 in its four game home stand at the GW Soccer Field.
• GW also finished the day with a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
