Colonials head into Atlantic 10 action on a high note
BALTIMORE – The George Washington women's soccer team topped UMBC, 4-1, on Thursday evening at Retriever Soccer Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 5th Minute – The Retrievers got on the board early with a quick strike from Christina Corbi. UMBC 1, GW 0
• 22nd Minute – GW evened the scored with a goal from Anyssa Ibrahim, her first in the Buff and Blue. Ibrahim took a shot in the 21st minute and quickly fired off another to put the Colonials on the board. GW 1, UMBC 1
• 40th Minute – Pareja helped the Buff and Blue pull ahead late in the first half with an unassisted goal. GW 2, UMBC 1
• 44th Minute – GW was able to pad its lead just four minutes later off a corner kick. Sammy Neyman took the corner and positioned the ball right in front of the net, giving Madi Coyne the opportunity to tip it in. GW 3, UMBC 1
• 76th Minute – Isabelle Eskay scored her first career goal to cement the Colonials' victory. GW 4, UMBC 1
NOTEWORTHY
• Pareja's goal marks her third in as many games. The sophomore scored the game-tying goal in the 87th minutes against Towson last Thursday and the game-winning goal against Bucknell on Sunday.
• GW led UMBC 5-0 in corner kicks on Thursday evening. The squad has dominated its opponents from the corner this season, taking 27 through seven games while holding its opponents to 17.
• GW defenders have accounted for four of the Colonials' 13 goals this season. Both Megan McCormick and Madi Coyne have registered two apiece.
• The Colonials held an impressive 19-6 advantage in shots, including a 9-3 margin in the second half. Anyssa Ibrahim led the pack with a season-high nine shots with five hitting on target.
• Ibrahim and Eskay both scored their first career goals for the Buff and Blue at UMBC.
