Standout first-year Sophia Michel has been honored as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Michel, who recorded GW's second goal in yesterday's 2-0 win over St. Bonaventure, has been a leader all season within the offensive unit. She finished the regular season with a team-best nine goals, recording 18 points in just 14 matches played. She ranks second on the team in total shots with 31, putting 18 of those on frame.
This is Michel's second weekly award, also winning Rookie of the Week on October 12th. She was also named the GW Student-Athlete of the Week on the same day. Her goal in the 46th minute yesterday against the Bonnies gave GW a cushion as it cruised to a 2-0 win, clinching the program's first postseason appearance since 2019.
The Buff & Blue kick off their quest for an A10 title on Friday, traveling to second-ranked Dayton at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
