The Colonials will return to four tournaments they played in a season ago
WASHINGTON – The GW golf team unveiled its 2019 fall schedule on Monday and it includes four tournaments the Colonials played in a year ago, highlighted by the Hawaii Ka'anapali Collegiate Invite to cap the slate in November.
Â
GW returns four of five starters from last season's Atlantic 10 Championship squad, including senior Adrian Castagnola, who took second place at A-10s and finished the season with a career-best 73.93 scoring average.
Â
"With a core nucleus of players back from last year I'm very excited for this season," said head coach Chuck Scheinost. "Our schedule is one that should allow us to compete for championships while also pushing us to grow as we face some of the top teams in the country."
Â
For the third time in the last four years, GW will open the season in Huntington, W.V., at the Marshall Invitational from September 9-10. A week later, the Colonials head south to Richmond for the VCU Janney Invitational, marking GW's fourth straight year in the field.
Â
While the first two tournaments will feature more regional fields, the Colonials will test themselves with one of the top events on the East Coast with the Mountaineer Invitational in Bridgeport, W.V., from October 7-8. Hosted by 2018 NCAA Tournament participant West Virginia University, the tournament will be held at the famed Pete Dye Golf Club.
Â
GW returns to the Elon Phoenix Invitational from Oct. 14-15, a tournament where several Colonials have had individual success over the years. Castagnola, along with recent graduate Logan Lowe, finished in the top-10 in each of the last two seasons, helping lead the way to a third-place team finish in 2017.
Â
Finally, the Colonials will be treated to a trip to Hawaii for the second consecutive season to compete in the Ka'anapali Collegiate Invite from Nov. 1-3. Considered one of the premier events in all of college golf, the event regularly draws multiple top-50 teams and will provide the Colonials an opportunity to end the fall season in style.
