Colonials to face crosstown foe American on Wednesday, Aug. 28
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – On a stormy Thursday evening in Williamsburg, Va., the George Washington women's soccer squad fell to William & Mary, 2-0, in its season opener.
The Colonials tallied 13 shots on the day, but could not find the back of the net as two second half goals by the Tribe made the difference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 46th Minute – After a back-and-forth battle in the first half, the Tribe was able to break the deadlock early in the game's second stanza with a goal from Sarah Segan.
• 64th Minute – William & Mary was able to pad its lead with a goal from Alex Kuhnle.
NOTEWORTHY
• The transfer quartet of Rachel Sorkenn, Sammy Neyman, Anyssa Ibrahim and Tamaki Machi all started in their Buff and Blue debuts in Williamsburg.
• First-year midfielder Isabelle Eskay also made her first appearance on the pitch for the Colonials.
• Co-captain Kelly Amador paced the squad with four shots on the night, three of which came on goal. Sorkenn also added two shots for the Buff and Blue while Allie Nornes, Madi Coyne, Maria Pareja, Ibrahim and Neyman tallied one apiece.
• The Colonials held a 13-9 advantage in shots, with eight of their chances coming in the game's second half. The Tribe held a 3-2 edge in corners.
