Friday's game moved to 12 p.m. with a doubleheader now scheduled Saturday at 10 a.m.
WASHINGTON -Â Due to expected inclement weather, GW baseball has changed its schedule for this weekend's A-10 series with St. Bonaventure. Friday's series opener has been moved up to 12 p.m. while Saturday, which will now serve as senior day, will feature a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
SENIOR DAY:Â With the schedule changes, the Colonials will hold senior day ceremonies between the two games of Saturday's doubleheader, approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. GW will honor Dom D'Alessandro, Kevin Hodgson, Pat Knight, Alex O'Rourke, Brady Renner and Nate Woods for their contributions to the program as well as present the team's annual year-end awards.
LAST TIME OUT:Â The Colonials claimed the opener of last weekend's series against Richmond, but fell victim to fast starts from the Spiders in setbacks on Saturday and Sunday. Junior Nate Fassnacht batted .400 on the weekend with a team-high six hits, four of which were for extra bases. Junior Elliott Raimo continued his late-season surge by allowing just a run on six hits with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
DOUBLING DOWN:Â Fassnacht's three doubles last weekend gave him 22 for the season and moved him within one of tying the program record for most two-baggers in a season (Matt Krimmel, 23, 2002). Fassnacht is fourth in the country when it comes to doubles, just two off the national leader.Â
Sophomore Tyler Hix has also reached 20 doubles this year, becoming just the fifth player in program history to cross the threshold. It's the first time two Colonials have posted at least 20 in the same season. GW is the only team in the nation to have two players with 20 or more two-baggers.
RAIMO'S RISE:Â Raimo has slowly been working his way back from injury this year, seemingly getting better with each passing start. His 6.1 innings last Friday was the second-longest outing of his year behind a 7.0-inning start on April 20 against Davidson. It also marked the first time this year the junior tossed more than 100 pitches. Raimo has allowed two earned runs or fewer in six straight starts and has punched out at least seven batters in his last three outings after eight combined strikeouts in his first six appearances of the year.
ABOUT THE BONNIES:Â St. Bonaventure is 6-12 in the league following a series loss last weekend against Saint Joseph's in which all three games were decided by one run. The Bonnies have struggled to score at times this year, ranking last in the A-10 at 4.5 runs per game. Sam Fuller has been the team's top offensive threat, hitting .333 with a .951 OPS. Tyler Kelder leads the team with 23 extra-base hits and a .527 slugging percentage.
On the mound. St. Bonaventure is 12th in the league with a 5.97 staff ERA. Donovan Moffat is the top arm with a 2.54 ERA in 49.2 innings across 19 appearances.
SERIES HISTORY:Â GW owns a 57-23 edge in the all-time series, most recently taking two of three in Olean last year. This is the Bonnies' first trip to Arlington since 2015 when GW swept a three-game set.
