Colonials set for first postseason appearance
WASHINGTON - George Washington softball will make its first postseason appearance in program history at the Liberty Regional as part of the National Invitational Softball Championship.
The Atlantic 10 co-champion Colonials are headed to Lynchburg, Va., for a three-day, double-elimination regional at Liberty Softball Stadium. They'll kick off the tournament Thursday with a 1 p.m. first pitch against Marshall with the winner facing Kent State later that night. The six-team bracket also features Appalachian State and Rutgers, in addition to the host Flames.
The winners of all four regionals will advance to the championship round, which will be held May 24-26 at Triple Crown Sports Complex in Fort Collins, Colo.
The release of the NISC field continued an eventful Sunday for the Buff and Blue, who earlier secured a share of the A-10 crown with Fordham after the winner-take-all final game was rained out.
In the event billed as the NIT of Softball, GW (42-16) will look to build on an already historic campaign. The Colonials had already set the program record for wins in a season before they won three of four games at UMass this week to claim their first conference title in the program's 17-year history.
The Buff and Blue have the most wins of any squad in the 19-team field. They have earned this opportunity on the national stage thanks to a potent offense led by A-10 Player of the Year Jenna Cone and First Team All A-10 pitcher Sierra Lange's spectacular work in the circle. They will chase another title while gaining valuable experience against quality competition along the way.
All games of the Liberty Regional are set to be broadcast via ESPN+. Presale tickets will be available here, starting Tuesday at 9 a.m. Single-day tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for youth/students, while three-day passes cost $25 for adults and $15 for youth/students.
