GW skipper to hold post for third straight year
WASHINGTON -Â GW baseball head coach Gregg Ritchie will once again be a part of USA Baseball this summer, resuming his role as the hitting coach for the 18U National Team. This is the third straight year in which Ritchie has held the position.
Last year, Ritchie was a part of the 18U National Team that won the gold medal at the U-18 Pan-American Championships and thus qualified for the World Softball Baseball Confederation U-18 World Cup this summer in South Korea. Team USA will be in search of its record fifth straight world title.
Ritchie's offense put together a .407 batting average at the Pan-American Championships, setting the USA Baseball record for most runs scored in an international tournament with 131. Additionally, he helped lead the 18U team to an undefeated record and a fourth consecutive world title in 2017 with the team hitting .273 over nine games.
Ritchie has long been committed to USA Baseball, also serving as a coach at the 2016 and 2018 17U NTDPs and 18U National Team Trials. Last week, it was announced that Ritchie would be a part of the inaugural MLB-USA Baseball PDP League as the hitting coordinator.
The staff will be managed for the second straight year by Jack Leggett, an ABCA Hall of Famer and long-time head coach at Clemson University. Former major leaguers Scott Bankhead (pitching coach) and Gerald Laird (assistant coach) round out the staff.
