Colonials return home this weekend to host Davidson
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Jaret Edwards pitched one of his best games of the season for GW baseball on Wednesday night at William & Mary, but the Tribe were able to escape with a 2-1 walk-off win at Plumeri Park.
Edwards authored a season-high 8.0 innings in a masterful performance, allowing only one run on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks. The junior allowed his only run in the second inning before calming things down with a double play.
The twin-killing started a string of 13 straight retired by Edwards into the sixth inning. The right-hander ultimately set down 19 of 20 at one point, and 20 of the final 23 he encountered.
The Colonials had offensive opportunities throughout the day, first loading the bases in the second inning with two outs before a groundout ended the threat. In the sixth, GW had a runner cut down at the plate on a double, but tied the game on an RBI groundout from redshirt freshman Derek Ripp.
The Buff & Blue had a chance to move ahead in the eighth, but the William & Mary outfield again cut down a runner at the plate trying to score from second.
Tied 1-1 into the 9th, the Tribe loaded the bases with one out on three walks (one intentional) and plated the winning run on a throwing error on a potential force play at the plate.
GW is back in action this weekend, hosting Davidson for a three-game Atlantic 10 series that is scheduled to start on Friday at 3 p.m.
