Minutemen score all eight runs in seventh inning
AMHERST, Mass. - GW baseball received an excellent start from junior Elliott Raimo, but Massachusetts erupted for eight runs against the Colonial bullpen to come away with an 8-0 win at Earl Lorden Field on Friday afternoon.
Raimo had his best start of the season, authoring 5.2 scoreless frames in a no-decision. The right-hander worked through five hits and three walks but came up big at the end of his outing. Facing a bases-loaded situation with one away in the last of the sixth, Raimo forced a weak foulout before giving way to junior Keagan McGinnis, who came on to get a crucial strikeout and keep the game scoreless.
The Minutemen came up big, though, in the seventh inning, scoring eight runs on five hits, two hit batters and two walks.
GW was unable to get anything going UMass starter Justin Lasko, who pitched a complete game four-hit shutout. Redshirt freshman Derek Ripp provided two of the hits, including a double.
The Colonials and Minutemen continue their series on Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
