Lacrosse Set to Wrap Home Slate

Colonials to host Duquesne on Friday, travel to George Mason on Sunday
OPENING DRAW: The George Washington lacrosse team will wrap up play at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus with a bout against Duquesne on Friday at 2 p.m. before marking the short trip to Fairfax, Va., to face George Mason on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Friday's game against the Dukes will be the Colonials' Play for a Cause Game, where they will raise money for the Mayo Clinic Cancer Research Center.
LAST TIME OUT: Coming off a loss at Saint Joseph's on Friday evening, GW (5-9, 3-3 A-10) returned home on Sunday afternoon and bounced back in dominant fashion with an 18-8 victory over the visiting VCU Rams. The Colonials came out hot from the start, striking six straight times to establish a 6-0 lead through the first 11 minutes of the contest. GW went on to score 11 of its 18 goals in the first half to cruise to the victory.
HELPING HAND: The Colonials tallied a season-high 11 assists in their game against the Rams on Sunday. Nine Colonials contributed to the effort, with Katie Quinn leading the way with a career-high matching three helpers. Fellow junior Morgan McDonnell paces the squad with 15 assists on the year, and recorded a career-high four helpers at Richmond (3/31). GW's 11 assists on Sunday marks the third time it has reached double-digits this season, also totaling 10 vs. Radford (2/24) and 10 vs. Richmond (3/31).
STARTING STRONG: GW scored 11 of its 18 goals in the first half against VCU, their highest goal total in a half this season. Additionally, the Colonials have scored 80 of their 149 goals in the game's first half. Ioanna Mantzouratos leads the team in first half strikes with 14, while Quinn and Tori Hampton follow closely behind with 13 and 11, respectively.
GETTING DEFENSIVE: The GW back line played a strong game against the Rams, holding them scoreless through the first 18 minutes of play and to just three goals in the game's first half. Caroline Esmond led the team with a game-high five ground balls while captain Caroline Kiernan and Cassie Scandalios added four each. Esmond also caused a team-high three turnovers.
ABOUT DUQUESNE: The Dukes sit even on the season (6-6, 1-5 A-10) and are coming off back-to-back narrow losses to the conference's top two teams: UMass (16-15 OT) and George Mason (14-13). Michaela Connoly (26g, 19a) and Rilee Bradshaw (40g, 3a) pace the squad offensively, while Maddy Curtis holds down the fort between the pipes with her 96 saves and 14.53 GAA.
ABOUT GEORGE MASON: The Patriots (9-5, 5-1 A-10) enter the weekend on a three game win streak. Last weekend, George Mason downed Davidson (11-7) before returning home to edge Duquesne (14-13). Attacker Deanna Balsama tied her career-high with five goals against the Dukes while goalkeeper Melissa Semkiw stopped a career-high tying 19 shots in Sunday's outing.
ROAD AHEAD: After their bout with the Patriots, the Colonials will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Amherst to face the Massachusetts Minutewomen, who are undefeated in conference action, on Saturday, April 20 at noon.
