Colonials earn 20th win behind pair of three-run innings
ARLINGTON, Va. - A quick turnaround from a win on Tuesday night was no issue for GW baseball on Wednesday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. The Buff & Blue dispatched visiting William & Mary, 8-4, and has now won three straight and five of its last six to get to 20 wins on the campaign.
The Colonials struck early with three runs in the last of the first, two coming via a double from senior Dom D'Alessandro, who reached safely for the seventh straight plate appearance in the process. He promptly scored on a a single from sophomore Tyler Hix to make it 3-0.

William & Mary countered with a two-run dinger in the top of the second, but first-year Anthony Frechette launched his first career long ball in the last of the fourth to double the advantage to 4-2.
The Buff & Blue created separation in the fifth by loading the bases with one out and scoring three runs on a bases loaded hit by pitch, an RBI single from redshirt freshman Derek Ripp and a bases loaded walk.
A balk in the last of the seventh equaled out a run in the sixth from the Tribe, giving GW an 8-3 cushion heading to the later innings. W&M brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the ninth inning after a bases loaded walk, but sophomore Kevin Sylvestri came in to record a flyout and a strikeout to earn his second save of the year.
Junior Jaret Edwards started and didn't factor in the decision despite allowing only two runs on three hits in 4.0 innings of work with three strike outs. Senior Pat Knight came on in relief to strike out five hitters in 3.0 frames to improve to 3-2 on the year.
Eight different Colonials notched a hit with multi-hit performances from juniors Steve Barmakian and Nate Fassnacht. D'Alessandro and Hix drove in a pair with the former scoring three times.
GW hits the road for the second straight weekend of conference play, traveling to take on Massachusetts. The series starts on Friday with a 3 p.m. first pitch followed by a 1 p.m. game Saturday and noon start on Sunday.
