WASHINGTON – In its first Atlantic 10 matchup at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the George Washington lacrosse team downed St. Bonaventure, 16-5, on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was all GW, with the Colonials finding the back of the net seven times while holding the visiting Bonnies to just one tally. Morgan McDonnell was the first to strike for the Buff and Blue, igniting the GW offense to five straight goals. In that span, McDonnell scored twice while Catie Perkins, Tori Hampton, and Katie Quinn added one each. The Bonnies were finally able to break through the GW back line with a goal at the 3:54 mark, but the Colonials closed the half with back-to-back strikes to go into the break with a six goal advantage.
GW continued its momentum in the second half with back-to-back goals from Christine Weber and Hampton before the Bonnies bounced back with three straight strikes to bring the score within five with 15:25 to play. The rest was all Buff and Blue as six different Colonials found the back of the net in the game's final 10 minutes to cement the 16-5 victory.
