Colonials post season-highs on vault and uneven bars

DURHAM, N.H. – In its third straight meet on the road, the George Washington gymnastics team posted season-high scores on vault and uneven bars, but it wasn't enough, as the Colonials were edged by New Hampshire, 195.500-194.475, on Sunday afternoon at Lindholm Gymnasium.
GW earned its 194.475 behind team scores of 48.700 on vault, 48.825 on bars, 48.800 on beam, and 48.150 on floor. Five Colonials finished the day on the podium while five gymnasts either matched or surpassed their season-highs.
Despite taking second in all-around, fifth-year co-captain Alex Zois totaled a season-high matching 39.050. The 39.050 marks the second time this season that she has scored above the 39.000 threshold and the 10th time she has done so in her career.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials started the afternoon on bars, totaling a season-high score of 48.825. Senior co-captain Julia McLaughlin highlighted the bars lineup with a career-high 9.825 along with sophomore Anna Warhol, who also earned a 9.825 to surpass her personal record. The team-high score also put the pair of Colonials in a tie for second place. First-year Simone Banen followed closely behind with a season-high matching 9.800, while fellow first-year Olivia Raymond scored a 9.700. Zois rounded out the bars lineup with a 9.675.
ROTATION TWO
GW then turned its attention to vault, tallying a team score of 48.700. McLaughlin continued her momentum from the first rotation into the second, pacing the squad with a career-high matching 9.800. Fellow co-captain Zois, along with Crasa, added matching 9.750s, while Warhol and Olivia Zona chipped in 9.700s to contribute to the team's season-high performance on vault.
ROTATION THREE
The Buff and Blue then took to floor for the third rotation, posting a 48.150. Crasa led the way with a team-high 9.825, a score that earned her second-place. Zois added a 9.750, followed by Zona (9.725), Katya Karpova (9.700) and Banen (9.150).
ROTATION FOUR
The Colonials wrapped up their day on beam, finishing with a 48.800. Zois and sophomore Hannah Cohen registered matching 9.875s to tie for first in the event. For Zois, the 9.875 marked a season-high, while for Cohen the 9.875 matched her career-high on beam. Banen also had a strong performance, posting a 9.775, while Raymond finished with a 9.650 and Brooke Bray and Katya Karpova earned identical 9.625s.
UP NEXT
After three straight meets on the road, the Colonials are set to make their return to the Charles E. Smith Center on Feb. 8 to host UNH, Yale, and William & Mary for their annual Pink Meet. Prior to march-outs at 7 p.m., GW will host a wine tasting with light hors d'oeuvres inside the Colonials Club. The cost is $15 and includes the single-meet ticket along with an open bar with a selection of wins for fans of age.
