GW and St. Bonaventure are set for a 4 p.m. tip-off in Smith Center
TIPPING OFF: As the calendar turns to March the GW men's basketball team returns home to Smith Center, where it will play two of its final three regular season games, to host St. Bonaventure on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Colonials then travel to Fordham on Wednesday, March 5, before hosting local rival George Mason on Saturday, March 9.
STUDENT-ATHLETES: On Wednesday night during the GW women's basketball game, Javier Langarica, Maceo Jack, Justin Mazzulla, Adam Mitola, Terry Nolan Jr., Armel Potter and Justin Williams were honored for being on the Athletics' Dean's List. Student-athletes needed to have a GPA of 3.0+ in either the spring or fall semester in 2018.
LAST TIME OUT: Langarica recorded his third double-double of the season but was one of few bright spots for GW in an 80-53 loss at Rhode Island on Tuesday. DJ Williams had his streak of 11 straight games scoring in double figures snapped as he was limited to nine points, and the Colonials failed to hit a 3-pointer (0-for-11) for the first time all season.
SERIES HISTORY: The Colonials have won the last three meetings in Smith Center and own a 22-6 advantage all-time in home games, while also leading the overall series 35-26. Last season in the teams' lone meeting at St. Bonaventure, the Bonnies took a 70-52 victory.
STANDINGS CHECK: The Colonials are in 12th place in the conference standings with a 4-11 record and are currently slated to play on the opening day of the Atlantic 10 Championship, Wednesday, March 13 in Brooklyn, N.Y. GW is a game behind 11th place Saint Joseph's (5-10), and owns the tiebreaker after defeating the Hawks in their lone meeting. Sitting two games ahead of the Colonials are Rhode Island and Richmond with 6-9 marks, and both squads own the tiebreaker over GW. Seeds 11-14 play in the first round of the tournament, while seeds 5-10 receive a bye to the second round, and seeds 1-4 earn a double-bye into the quarterfinals.
TIP-INS: Langarica now leads the team with five double-figure rebounding games, while his three double-doubles match Arnaldo Toro, who played in seven games in November before being lost for the season with a hip injury … DJ Williams continues to lead GW in scoring (14.8) and is averaging 17.3 ppg over the last 12 games … despite an off night at URI (0-4 from 3pt.), Jack is shooting a team-best .367 from long distance … his 10.9 ppg are third on the team and stand as the second biggest increase in the A-10 from a season ago, when he averaged 2.8 points as a first-year.
