Colonials dropped their midweek debut
After the Colonials tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the third, the crosstown Hoyas flexed their offensive firepower by scoring 12 consecutive runs to snap the Buff and Blue's three-game winning streak.
GW matched Georgetown early on. Nate Fassnacht doubled and scored in the first to tie the game before Tyler Hix's two-out single in the third brought home Cade Fergus to even it again.
The Hoyas took control from there, though. The visitors went ahead for good with a run in the fourth to end GW starter Pat Knight's day and then added three more in the fifth against the Colonials bullpen. They put it away with an eight-run eighth.
GW had trouble solving Georgetown starter Jack Cushing, who settled in to hold the Colonials scoreless over his final four frames in a seven-inning quality start.
Dom D'Alessandro recorded a pair of hits for the Buff and Blue, including a leadoff double in GW's two-run ninth inning, while Fassnacht reached three times with his early double and a pair of walks.
Relievers Andrew Wheeler, Kevin Hodgson and Emmett Harkins helped keep GW within striking distance in the middle innings with scoreless outings.
GW continues its homestand over the weekend, hosting Manhattan for a three-game series. Friday's opener is set for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch before the Colonials face the Jaspers again Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (noon).
