WASHINGTON — GW men's basketball welcomes Longwood to the Smith Center on Saturday for its final home game of the decade. The Colonials own a 106-61 mark at the Smith Center during the 2010s.
LAST TIME OUT: After two weeks off for finals, the Colonials faced a battle-tested Harvard squad that had already beaten A-10 foe UMass early in December. Armel Potter led the Colonials with his first double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 assists. GW led at the half before ultimately falling to the Crimson.
A LOOK BACK: The Colonials reached the postseason five times during the decade, highlighted by the NIT Championship during the 2015-16 campaign and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014.
List of Postseason Appearances (2010-19)
2009-10 — 1st Round CBI Tournament
2013-14 — 2nd Round NCAA Tournament
2014-15 — 2nd Round NIT Tournament
2015-16 — NIT Championship
2016-17 — CBI Quarterfinals
ABOUT LONGWOOD: Entering its final non-league contest against GW, Longwood will look to hit the reset button when it gets to Big South play after dropping five of its last six games. In their last contest, the Lancers fell to The Citadel in triple-overtime. Shabooty Phillips (11.2 ppg) and Jaylon Wilson (11.1 ppg) lead the Lancers in scoring and are the only players in double figures. Phillips has reached the 20+-point mark three times this season with back-to-back 24-point games against Stetson and The Citadel. Wilson had a season-best 24 points in the 3OT loss to The Citadel.
SERIES HISTORY: The Colonials hold a 3-1 all-time series record over the Lancers that dates back to the 2006-07 season. GW is 3-0 at the Smith Center, with its one loss on the road in 2009. In the last meeting on Nov. 26, 2014, John Kopriva led GW with 19 points and was one of four players in double figures. Joe McDonald was a basket shy of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
NO FOMO HERE: Maceo Jack does not have the fear of missing out on the court as he's played all but 10 minutes in the last six games. Jack went the distance vs. Evansville, South Carolina, Delaware and Harvard. He played 36 minutes against Milwaukee and 34 minutes at home vs. Boston University.
DEFEND THY THREE: The Colonials are third in the NCAA in 3-point defense (24.0%), a staple of Jamion Christian's defensive style of play. Last season, the Colonials finished the season 257th while allowing the opposition to shoot 35.6 percent from behind the line.
