
Men's Basketball Returns Home to Host Boston University on Wednesday

WELCOME TO DC: The George Washington men's basketball team welcomes Boston University to the Smith Center for the first of a four-game homestand to close out the 2019 calendar.
LAST TIME OUT: First-year forward Jamison Battle finished with a season-best 18 points and six 3-pointers in a 74-65 loss to South Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Armel Potter continued his scoring ways with 22 points and added six assists.
ABOUT BU: After a recent SEC victory over South Carolina, the Terriers dropped three-straight in the Cancun Challenge at West Virginia (on-campus) and then to Northern Colorado and UT Martin in Mexico. Slated as a top-five team in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, the Terriers return one of the PL's top scoring forwards in Max Mahoney. The senior leads the team in rebounds (7.0) and is second in points (11.0) per game. After missing all of last season, highly-touted guard Walter Whyte is making an immediate impact for head coach Joe Jones. Whyte, BU's leading scorer at 13.4 points per game, has made a team-best 17 three-pointers.
SERIES HISTORY: George Washington leads the all-time season series 19-2 over the Terriers with the series dating back to 1958. GW and BU have not faced each other since 2013, a 70-60 victory for the Colonials. Since 2000, GW and BU have played 11 times with the Colonials holding a 10-1 edge.
SHOTS OF JAMO: Rookie Jamison Battle is currently 12th nationally and third among true freshmen in three-point field goals per game at 3.50. He is 11th in total 3-point field goals made with 28 and 24th in total 3-point attempts with 65. Battle set a season-best 18 points and hit six 3-pointers last game against South Carolina. Prior to that, the long-distance shooter had quite the weekend in the Bahamas shooting 10-of-14 from the outside, which earned him an Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Week award for his contributions. Battle averaged 12 points and eight rebounds over the three-game trip. Battle is fourth on the team in scoring (11.1) and first among active players at 44.9% from the outside.
TIME TO BATTLE: Jamison Battle leads the Colonials in minutes per game (33.3) and has played 30 or more minutes in seven of the last eight games with his season-high of 40 minutes against Milwaukee last Sunday. Nationally, he is 10th in his class in minutes per game and is separated by 41 seconds per game for sixth on the list.
DEFEND THY THREE: The Colonials are 14th in the NCAA in three-point defense (25.4), a staple of Jamion Christian's defensive style of play. Last season, the Colonials finished the season 257th while allowing the opposition to shoot 35.6 percent from behind the line.
BENCH MOB: The Colonial bench has been a bright addition to Coach Christian's arsenal as the reserves have combined to averaged 19.1 points per game and contributed double figures in all eight contests.
SIXTH-MAN SUCCESS: After starting the first six games of the season, Jameer Nelson Jr. has moved into a sixth-man spot for the Colonials. At South Carolina, Nelson had 13 points in 25 minutes with no turnovers. In the past two games, Nelson hasn't committed a turnover while nabbing four steals.
OOH OOH, MR. POTTER: Over the past four games, Armel Potter has turned into a savvy veteran leader with his play on the court. Potter scored 20+ points in all three games in the Bahamas and then added 22 points against the Gamecocks. Potter had his GW single-game best with 25 points against Evansville. In 96 career games, Potter has reached double figures 54 times and scored 20 or more points 16 times, with four of his five GW occasions happening this season. Potter did damage at the free throw line during the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase, connecting on 25-of-31 (80.6%). His 12 made free throws against Milwaukee is a career-best for the Long Island guard. In two starts this season, Potter is averaging 39.5 minutes, 22.0 points, 6.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.
BOHEMIAN RESERVE: During GW's three-game swing of the Bahamas, the bench played a vital role in the Colonials' 2-1 record. Of GW's 212 total points in the Bahamas, the Colonial reserves netted 68 points (32 percent of GW's points scored). This was heavily contributed by the play of Armel Potter in the first two games before he gained a starting spot against Milwaukee. With Potter starting, Ace Stallings had nine points in a lead bench role.
