
Women’s Soccer Set For A-10 Championship Semifinal on Friday

Colonials to face Massachusetts Minutewomen at 5 p.m.
KICKING OFF: The George Washington women's soccer team will make its first appearance in an A-10 semifinal match since 2016 on Friday when it travels to Saint Louis's Hermann Stadium to go head-to-head with Massachusetts. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials opened up A-10 Championship action in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, shutting out Saint Joseph's in the quarterfinals, 3-0.
LOCK DOWN DEFENSE: GW turned in its fifth clean sheet of the season and fourth in conference play on Sunday. Keeper Tamaki Machi ranks third in the conference with her 1.059 GAA, fourth with her .794 save percentage, and seventh with her 4.26 saves per game.
AT THE TOP: All three of GW's leading scorers found the back of the net against Saint Joseph's. Rachel Sorkenn paces the squad with 23 points (9g, 5a), while Pavon (5g, 5a) and Pareja (5g, 51) are in a tie for second on the team with 15 points apiece.
SHARP SHOOTERS: GW outshot the Hawks, 13-10, on Sunday, recording 10 of its shots in the game's second half. As a team, the Colonials are outshooting their opponents 337-189 and rank first in the conference and third nationally with their 9.89 shots on goal per game.
ABOUT MASSACHUSETTS: The Minutewomen shut out Fordham, 4-0, to earn a spot in the semifinal. UMass scored three times in the first 12 minutes of the second half before adding another late goal to knock off the Rams. Melissa Kossler paces the squad with 29 points (11g, 7a), while Peyton Ryan leads the team between the pipes with her 1.63 GAA and 65 saves.
