Colonials sign Brigham, Gingras and Perea to NLIs
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball head coach Jennifer Rizzotti announced the program's 2020-21 signing class on Thursday, welcoming three new student-athletes to the Buff & Blue. Forwards Ali Brigham (Franklin, Mass.) and Caranda Perea (Altoona, Pa.) join guard Aurea Gingras (Alexandria, Va.) in the Colonials' incoming class.
"I'm really excited to welcome our fourth recruiting class to GW," Rizzotti said. "They complete the cycle we started when our staff arrived here and each bring skill sets that will complement the players in the three classes above them.
"In Alice, Caranda and Aurea, we have three great human beings, excellent students and basketball players ready to join a program aspiring to be nationally recognized on a consistent basis."

Brigham brings an imposing post presence to the Colonials at 6-foot-4, and her family is no stranger to GW. Her father, Bill, played for two years in the early 1990s under head coach Mike Jarvis, competing on the 1993 NCAA Tournament team. Brigham has made a name for herself as a Gatorade Player of the Year nominee in Massachusetts and a three-time team MVP for Franklin High School. She has already surpassed 1,000 career points entering her senior year and averaged a double-double of 22.5 ppg and 15.4 rpg last season.
Coach Rizzotti on Ali: "It's hard to find bigs with the kind of skill set that Alice has,She can shoot the 3-pointer, and she's comfortable handling and passing the ball from the perimeter. But the best part is that she still loves the post-up game. She consistently gives a great target, and she's worked hard to be able to score over either shoulder. She's also a coach's kid who has the IQ of a point guard, so we can run offense through her, and she can anchor our defense.

Aurea Gingras
5'8" // G // Alexandria, Va. // Edison
Gingras is a local product who started her high school tenure at Paul VI Catholic before moving to Edison High School for her junior campaign. The 5-foot-8 guard won a pair of state championships for PVI, starting at point guard as a sophomore for a team that was ranked No. 5 in the nation at year's end by ESPN. Last year at Edison, Gingras earned First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Region honors while possessing an all-around game with 9.0 ppg, 4.0 apg, 3.0 spg and 3.0 rpg.
Coach Rizzotti on Aurea: "Aurea brings a defensive presence to the point guard position that we've been missing. She is competitive, commands attention as a leader and thrives in situations where she can deliver the ball to good players around her. She's also worked hard to be a scoring threat, especially off ball screens, so she'll fit in nicely in our offense. It's great that her strengths will complement the guards we already have in the program."

Caranda Perea
6'2" // F // Altoona, Pa. // Altoona Area
Perea is an All-Area performer at Altoona Area High School, making her impression as a 6-foot-2 forward. She is coming off her second district championship in three years and was a First-Team All-Mid Penn honoree this past year after averaging 13.2 ppg and leading her team with 78 blocks and 43 3-pointers. Perea was a part of the AAU Division I National Champions with Central PA Dynamite in 2015 and 2016 and helped the team to a U.S. Junior National title in 2019.
Coach Rizzotti on Caranda: "Caranda is the kind of versatile player we've worked hard to recruit to GW. With her size, she can give us depth at the 4/5 position, but her guard skills and ability to shoot the 3-pointer allows us to spread the floor and play her anywhere. I also love that she's always ready to talk hoops with me. We want kids that will continue to challenge themselves and add to the culture learning and improving their games."
